EXHIBITION: Swiss Diplomacy Exhibition
'On a delicate Mission'
Swiss Diplomacy Exhibition
with Holzer+Kobler Architekturen
Client Zurich Landesmuseum
Location Zurich, Switzerland
The exhibition presents the history of Swiss Diplomacy from the uncertain times of its birth to the current global challenges on a red carpet.
A white fabric is stretched through the Ruhmeshalle, the historical armory room of the Landesmuseum, transforming the space into grand coulisse for the main motive at the center of the exhibition: the interactive ‘Diplomat’s Banquet Table’. The media installation immerses the visitor into the ostentatious world of the diplomatic etiquette, in spatial relation with the impressive mural paintings of the ‘Battle of Marignano’ from Ferdinand Hodler – the symbolic birth date of Swiss diplomacy.
As a counterpoint, the space defined underneath the white fabric is conceived as a backstage where histories and backgrounds are documented. The historical objects are grouped on six angular exhibition pods displayed chronologically on the red carpet. The reduced scale of the space, the lighting design as well as graphics creates an intimate atmosphere, propitious the personal questioning of the traces of Swiss diplomacy.
