Location Andermatt, Switzerland
Two prominent wood volumes atop a stone base define this hotel as the welcoming icon of Andermatt’s new resort development. Like boulders in the landscape, they create a dialogue with the spectacular natural setting, framing views of the valley. In a scale fitting of the region’s historic grand hotels, the building’s cliff-like facades are subtly textured in wood, while its sloped roofs integrate with the the town’s rooftop landscape.
Guests are greeted in a lobby atrium stretching over two levels that incorporates a reception, bar, spa facilities, two restaurants and a congress center. Within these common areas and guest rooms in the towers, modern reinterpretations of traditional wood and stonework prevail. Large format glazing is precisely placed to facilitate panoramic views of the breathtaking scenery, offering abundant light that further enhances the spacious rooms. Detailed local carpentry helps evoke a unique and warm atmosphere.
