ARCHITECTURE: Automobile Show Garage
Automobile Show Garage
Location Zurich, Switzerland
Built as an extension to a neoclassical villa, this hybrid structure melds the desire of a sports car lover to display his automobiles, with the practical need to house cars for everyday usage. The garage is conceived a wide folded plane (visually extending and) ending the property to the east towards the railroad tracks. The former garden house is integrated as a lounge and screening room in the scheme and creates a contrastful ensemble with the contemporary architecture of the show garage.
This pavilion aims to create the ideal showing conditions for the cars. The facade towards the existing house is composed of four large glazed sliding doors to allow the automobiles to be displayed as an extension of the living areas. During the day, skylights allow an excellent natural lighting of the car, while at night time large surfaces for indirect lighting associated with punctual spot accents assures an optimal ligthing. The reduced color scheme is functional while allowing the automobiles to stand out like gems against the concrete background.
